Inspired by the popular Golden Milk, I decided to use my vanilla protein powder and take things up a notch by making a Golden Protein Shake. This shake is delicious and nutritious!
Sidenote- I’m not a fan of cold vanilla drinks, so I wanted to find a way to enjoy my protein shake. It was one of the flavors in a variety set that I have from Orgain. I didn’t want to let it go to waste!
Now, if you’re unfamiliar with Golden Milk, it’s a drink from India that’s made with turmeric and other spices such as cinnamon and ginger. The milk is typically warmed. Turmeric gives the milk its golden color. There is research that shows that golden milk has anti-inflammatory properties as well as other benefits such as boosting your immune system. Healthline has great information about this drink if you want to learn more. As always, consult a health professional when making important decisions about your health. Your girl only plays a doctor on TV! A TV show in my imagination-Stack’s Anatomy.
Now for the important part- the recipe!
8-12 oz of your favorite milk. Unsweetened almond milk is my favorite plant-based milk.
½ teaspoon of turmeric
½ teaspoon of cinnamon
¼ teaspoon of ginger
1 packet or 2 scoops of Orgain Vanilla Bean protein powder
Blend or shake milk, spices, and protein powder in a blender or blender bottle.
If adding ice:
Follow your blender’s instructions regarding ice and blend again
Add ice to your blender bottle and shake it again
Enjoy! That’s all folks!
You can go as light or as heavy as you would like with the spices. Feel free to use your favorite protein powder as well. Again, I used vanilla-flavored protein powder by Orgain. I love it because it’s a vegan protein powder that has 21g of protein. If you’re tracking your net carbs, it’s only 5g of net carbs.
